Figures included in the staircase built to access the first floor of the old hospital of Santa Cruz. San Roque is in the western foot of the stairs, and Charity, a woman who protects three children in the East. The stairs were made by master builder Joan Safont between 1568 and 1575. If the figure of Charity is self-explanatory, at a time when hospitals were considered charities, so does San Roque saint revered as a patron against pests often were a scourge to the cities of these poor health conditions.
