In November 1882 they were charged the four groups that had been placed in the main gates of the park entrance. Two of them-industry and trade- were commissioned to Agapito Vallmitjana, while allegories marine and agriculture were entrusted to his brother Venanci. All were carved in stone in the province of Lleida. In late November 1884 were getting the statues of agriculture and marine pedestals at the park entrance for the ride Customs (now Avenida del Marqués de la). The marina was the last to register, act that took place on December 3, 1884. They weighed 400 hundredweight.
As in the representation of agriculture, it does place the traditional accessories to publicize that representation. In this case, accessories are the anchor and the chains are wound around the iron pylon where boats are moored. An arm of the figure supports this element, while the other is at the waist position at the time was criticized because it was considered an inelegant position. What I could say is that there is an exaggerated musculature in the bare leg of the statue, and illogically out. This leg, leaving naked in the folds of her dress, reminds us how to make one of Bernini angels decorating the Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome.
More criticism is a certain disproportion is in the anatomy of the child who accompanies the female figure, and grab a fishing net. The solution given to this putti shows some disproportion, especially of the head and torso compared to the legs.
The design of the figure was made by Venanci Vallmitjana, while in the final execution intervened very remarkable way the sculptor Josep housing.
Unlike the sculptures of Agapit-and giving in the Hall of San Juan, today Passeig Lluís Companys, his brother Venanci these have a lower finish, especially regarding the rear view of the sculpture, undoubtedly less orderly and maintained when compared to those signed by Agapito.
