In April 1883, the Vallmitjana the four statues were crowned pedestals of the monumental gates of the Citadel Gardens, sculptures to be carried out in one of the barracks located in the same park is officially responsible.

Allegory industry was not the first time I was treated by Vallmitjana, since they had already sculpted a statue representing the industry, along with trade, were intended to adorn the building of the Bank of Barcelona in 1862. The issue also was turning to other issues, as demonstrated in February 1883 placed at the niches of the facade of Mercantile Casino, two statues representing trade and industry, works respectively Rossend Nobas and Juan Roig and To usually do. With these orders is present the philosophy of principals who preferred this type of allegories representations of satyrs, Venus and other pagan myths.

In September 1882 already he had made the sketch, were made as those of the other three statues to be placed in the four pedestals Park entrance. The sculptures would be made in stone of the province of Lleida, a decision that did not please many who said it was preferable that these pieces were made of marble, a material that was considered to have more durability and beauty and it was easier to clean. In January 1883 its realization is approved. The final sculpture was completed in early July 1884 and was the first sculpture set -formed by agriculture, industry, trade and marina- which stood in place, namely November 15, 1884, above one of the pedestals that were in the park entrance hall looking at San Juan. Following the traditional iconography, the industry is symbolized by a goddess who remembers Diana, bare breasts and classic clothing, resting on a large sprocket. The work is well conceived as a whole, although there are some aspects that may surprise as is the position of the right leg and some disproportion in the hands and face characterization. In these, they did not bother to search for lines that favored the four sides of the sculptural effect, as indicated by the arrangement of objects grouped together to figure. I must say that, although the model was made by Agapito Vallmitjana and not his brother Venanci in exchanged contracts on the final execution worked the sculptor José housings.
