The Beach Centre

The Passeig Marítim arcade, opposite Hospital del Mar, is home to an environmental education centre, which is dedicated to promoting the Barcelona seaside. It accompanies bathers and offers a look at the area's historical transformation and marine biodiversity.

The sky, the sand, the water and marine biodiversity are the stars of the Beach Centre, which provides information on the Barcelona coastline. It also offers a programme of free activities, a free loan service for newspapers, books and magazines, equipment for playing on the sand and sports equipment for bathers.

The Beach Centre offers bather services and special water-cycle activities for everyone (Children, young people, families; Adults and elderly people; and Schools). It is open to the public from March to September, offering workshops, storytelling sessions, guided tours, routes round the city, entertainment, informal talks and games. It also offers an information and consultation service on the coastal area, and a free loan service for newspapers, books, magazines, equipment for playing games on the sand and sports equipment.

Activities

As for individual activities, centre users will be able to follow seaside routes and go on guided tours (the beach, the sea wall, the fish wholesale market, the Zoo, the Barceloneta neighbourhood, CRAM, etc.,) take part in marine biodiversity discovery activities and family workshops, and watch documentaries, among other things. Places for these activities are limited and registration will be dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Beach Centre has spaces for temporary exhibitions on Barcelona's coastal area and its historical and natural history. The transformation of the area is the driving force behind this environmental education centre dedicated to promoting the Barcelona seaside, its environmental wealth, the marine ecosystem and a civic and sustainable use of the city's beaches.
